The Problem: Superstar comic book writer James Tynion IV, fresh from his run on DC's flagship Batman comic, teamed with hyper-talented artist Martin Simmonds to create a new comic book series, the conspiracy horror-thriller The Department of Truth. How do you mix horror, government secrets, and cover-ups into a compelling masthead design that works for main covers, variant covers, and collected editions?
The Solution: Create a main logo that references redacted documents, photocopied and passed around until they're almost unreadable. I also created an official set for this fictional government department that also served as an alt logo for variants and in-universe documents.
End Uses: Monthly comics, trade paperback and hardcover collections, convention signage and merchandise.
